Spiritual Warfare: How to Stay Spiritually Slippery and Walk in Victory

Practical Application – Becoming "Slippery" in the Spirit

Living Daily in Victory Over the Enemy

✨“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7 (BSB)

How Do We Apply Spiritual Warfare Daily?

We’ve spent the last few days understanding spiritual warfare, recognizing the battle, and equipping ourselves with the Armor of God. But how do we make this practical?

The key is learning how to live daily in spiritual preparedness—not just reacting when an attack comes, but positioning ourselves to walk in victory every single day.

Think of it like an athlete. A champion wrestler doesn’t wait until the match starts to prepare; he trains, conditions, and stays ready at all times. Likewise, our spiritual preparedness must be consistent, intentional, and strategic.

Becoming Spiritually "Slippery" – No Handholds for the Enemy

We’ve talked about how ancient wrestlers oiled themselves so their opponent couldn’t get a grip. Spiritually, we must do the same—removing any areas where the enemy might latch onto us.

Paul gives us a strong warning:

✨“Do not give place to the devil.” – Ephesians 4:27 (BSB)

The phrase “give place” means to give him space, an opportunity, or an entry point. If we’re not careful, the enemy will grab hold of unresolved sin, bitterness, doubt, or fear and use it against us.

Practical Ways to Stay Spiritually Slippery:

1. Guard Your Thoughts – Take control of your mind and reject lies (2 Corinthians 10:5).

2. Repent Quickly – Keep short accounts with God and don’t let sin linger (1 John 1:9).

3. Walk in Forgiveness – Unforgiveness is a major foothold for the enemy (Matthew 6:14-15).

4. Stay in the Word – A daily intake of Scripture strengthens your spirit (Psalm 119:105).

5. Pray Without Ceasing – A life of constant prayer keeps you connected to God (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

6. Surround Yourself with the Right People – Godly community is essential for growth (Hebrews 10:25).

The Importance of Daily Spiritual Disciplines

A soldier wouldn’t show up to battle without training, yet many Christians go into daily life without spiritual preparation. Daily spiritual disciplines are what keep us strong, alert, and victorious.

1. Daily Prayer – Your Spiritual Lifeline

Prayer is your direct connection to God’s strength and a key weapon against the enemy. Jesus told us:

✨“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” – Matthew 26:41 (BSB)

Practical Tip: Set aside a specific time for daily prayer, even if it’s just 10-15 minutes. Pray before starting your day and before making big decisions.

2. Reading & Declaring Scripture – Your Sword in Battle

The Bible is not just a book—it’s your weapon! Jesus fought Satan’s temptations by quoting Scripture (Matthew 4:1-11). If you don’t know God’s Word, you’re fighting without a sword.

✨“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword.” – Hebrews 4:12 (BSB)

Practical Tip: Pick a few key Scriptures to memorize and speak out loud when facing trials. Keep a list of “battle verses” that you can turn to quickly.

3. Worship – Inviting God's Presence into Your Life

Worship is a powerful weapon that shifts the atmosphere and weakens the enemy’s influence.

✨“But You are holy, O You who inhabit the praises of Israel.” – Psalm 22:3 (BSB)

When we worship, we invite God’s presence into our circumstances, and the enemy cannot stand where God’s presence dwells.

Practical Tip: Start your day with worship, even if it’s just one song. Keep worship music playing in your home or car to create a God-centered environment.

4. Fasting – Strengthening Your Spirit Over Your Flesh

Fasting helps us disconnect from distractions and focus on spiritual growth. It’s a way to break strongholds, gain clarity, and draw closer to God.

✨“Is not this the fast that I have chosen: to break the chains of wickedness, to undo the cords of the yoke, and to set the oppressed free?” – Isaiah 58:6 (BSB)

Practical Tip: Try fasting for a meal, a day, or even from social media. Use that time to pray and seek God.

How to Discern Spiritual Attacks

Sometimes, life’s challenges are just normal struggles, but other times, they are spiritual attacks. How do you know the difference?

Signs You’re Under a Spiritual Attack:

Sudden, intense discouragement or confusion that doesn’t make sense.

Disunity in relationships out of nowhere.

Recurring sinful temptations that seem stronger than usual.

Feeling unusually weary or oppressed even when rested.

Obstacles and distractions appearing every time you try to pray or study the Word.

What to Do When Under Attack:

1. Recognize it – Don’t be ignorant of the enemy’s tactics (2 Corinthians 2:11).

2. Resist it – Speak the Word, pray, and declare victory (James 4:7).

3. Ask for prayer support – Don’t fight alone (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12).

4. Worship through it – Praise shifts the battle (2 Chronicles 20:22).

Action Step for Today

Take inventory of your daily spiritual habits. Ask yourself:

1. Which of these disciplines do I need to strengthen?

2. Are there any footholds I need to remove?

3. Am I prepared daily for spiritual warfare, or do I only react when I’m under attack?

Pray and ask God to help you become spiritually slippery—so that when the enemy tries to grab hold, there’s nothing for him to grip.

Coming Up: Day 5 – The Victory Mindset: Wrestling from a Place of Authority

Tomorrow, we’ll wrap up this series by focusing on our authority in Christ and how we are fighting from victory, not for victory.
